Hybrid

Has anyone heard the remix album in it's entirety? Reviews? I'm so tempted to just order the thing...

Saw Kraftwerk at Coachella, and good lord have their songs benefitted from updated sonics... it seems like Numan's better tracks would fare very well also.

Funny how ppl like Plump DJ's and other top UK acts are renting out Gary['s voice for their projects... kinda like the Robert Smith revival that seems to be in full swing.

go for it... some really great stuff on it. most enjoyable if you've gotten the last three studio albums. very hard edged remixes for certain, further extending his Nu industrial style... though i would reccomend more 'Mutate', which is Hybrid combined with a third disc, which is DVD (unfortunately only DVD) which has 8 more remixes plus 3 videos and 2 live perfomances...

funny you mention Mutate. Just ran across it by chance and snapped it up. The remixes are remarkably good, some of them bordering on sublime. The DVD vids are pretty great as well, if a little behind the NIN curve...

Can't recommend this enough, unless you adhere strictly to the more Kraftwerk-esque of Gary's work.

Hey 23, you know that you can rip the mpg-3 layer from DVD's these days and create your own CD of just the audio, yes?

        well, i know NOW
        but i don't know HOW

i consider it Gary catching up to the music he inspired, and hearing the old stuff done in the NU way just seems a logical progression.
supposedly Gary and Trent spent some time working together. don't know if anything came out of that aside from inspiration, but you can definitely hear some 'thievery' going down on the Pure album. i also think his work with Fear Factory helped him a bit in forwarding this direction...

I go to sleep every night listening to the 2nd disk from Hybrid. I have only had the disks for a week. So far I am totally impressed. Gary seems to be getting better with time.

it's all gotten me curious as to what the new one (in the works, yet) will be like... if new fatherhood has remellowed him or taken away his aspect of alienization, etc.

Sure doesn't sound like it, if his recent lyrical bent is any indication.

Haven't been to his site lately, so didn't know that there was a new one in the works. I can't wait. The sound of the live tracks performed on the Hybrid DVD was most promising... I'd sure love to see a tour materialize. Kraftwerk sure tore it up earlier this year to rave reviews, maybe it's time.

Maybe he'll bring Curve along to open.. <drool>

part of what makes me wonder IS his recent lyrical bent. the last full studio album, 'Pure', dealt mainly with the recent loss of his and Gemma's unborn child. while creating through the "tortured artist effect", it's definitely preferable if the pain is one only imagined. since, in this case, it wasn't, it makes it an amazingly personal work.
that's why i was curious as to whether their newfound happiness will cause him to take a different tack, and, if so, how different...

Well, I finally got around to needing to do this myself. And it wasn't entirely straightforward, but not too bad all told.

I used a demo program called x2cd whose only imitation was a max of 5 files per batch and 5mB per mp3. So the one song I was really after is slightly abridged.... but I'll live. It reads the dvd, rips the *.vob file directly to mp3. All in all, fairly painless. Good luck !
