The SF show at the Fillmore last Saturday was really good. It was a good mixture of new material off Jagged, the classic standards like "Metal", "Are 'Friends' Electric?" and "Down in the Park", and a few off of Pure. The show was great but much like the album Jagged I couldn't help feeling that it was just like the tour he did for Pure only with new songs.
The opening act (which I wasn't expecting since they weren't listed on the ticket or the website) was called New Skin and they sounded like Lene Lovich singing for Altered Images if they were now called Evanescence. If that makes any sense. They were OK, but I rarely like the opening acts.
Since I didn't know there was an opener and Gary didn't come on until almost 10:30 I had to leave early to get the car back on time. For anyone who was there --- what were the last few songs he performed and what did he do for an encore?

Re: SF show 8/19
Mon, August 21, 2006 - 10:43 AMThe first song of the encore was an excellent rendition of 'Cars'. I thought the reworking of 'Cars' on the HYBRID album was the one letdown from that collection... so I was amazed to hear a reworking of the song that was possibly better than the original. I forget what the final song was... I think I was too giddy from Cars to notice.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I hope I look that good and have that much energy when I'M 48! -

Mon, August 21, 2006 - 1:24 PMI'm still thinking about the beginning of the first song- which I have no idea what it was since
I haven't bought a GN album since The Pleasure Principle. It started so slowly, and the band
and Gary just basically stood there for quite a while, as the quiet synthy intro built to a tension.
You've got to be pretty confident and have the stage presence to pull that off. I was impressed.
Good show- I'd go see him again. -

Mon, August 21, 2006 - 1:26 PMHe opened with "Pressure", which is the first song off Jagged. Also a great way to start off an album. -

Re: SF show 8/19
Mon, August 21, 2006 - 4:27 PMI wish he was playing in Portland/Seattle/Vancouver BC. I had to fly to SF to see the "Pure" show when the venue up here fell down in an earthquake; I couldn't afford that this time.
Suckage.
"Pressure" is a perfect show-starter.
Did he play "Haunted"? That's my favorite tune from "Jagged".
