WHY WE LOVE GARY NUMAN:
In 1979, Gary Numan turned away from guitars and embraced the cold new sound of synthesizers. In the span of just 6 months, he released "Replicas" and "The Pleasure Principle", and created a whole new genre: synth. Since then he has continuously re-invented himself, and in 1994, Gary embraced industrial and darkwave. In 2003, Gary released "Hybrid", a collection of industrial revisions of older material, and one of the greatest albums of this decade so far.

Re: tribute to Gary Numan - July 27th in San Francisco, CA
Wed, July 19, 2006 - 11:52 AMJust announced: Cleopatra Records' artist NEW SKIN will be opening for Gary Numan at the Fillmore (and the rest of the tour)
I've received about 40 copies of their promo CD, which I will be giving out to the crowd at Strangelove on July 27th.. which will give you all a chance to learn a few of their songs before seeing them open for Mr. Numan. They sound like a combination of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and She Wants Revenge, with a little Siouxsie Sioux thrown in. And their forthcoming album is produced by Dave Allen (the Cure, Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy).
Can't wait? You can give them a listen at: www.myspace.com/newskinmusic . I think "Sweet Talk Misery" is particularly strong... it reminds me a lot of 'Lillian' off the new Depeche Mode album. That's pretty high praise.
